MACKINZEY CRITZER
I create works of art to educate, inform the public, and to get a reaction from people. Within my portfolio, I conceptually base my work on my own experiences with my PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder)/ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and topics of PDD-NOS such as symptoms involved, personal views, political issues, and other related topics.

My work consists of digital pieces/prints that involves geometric earthy color tones, human/humanoid figures, flora and fauna as subjects as well as for symbolism purposes/iconography. I love pieces that can incorporate an almost nostalgic, homey, or an antique feel, to invite clients and viewers into these interpretations. My pieces exist both as digital and as inkjet prints on matte paper. However, I do work with ceramics, installations, and fabrics as they convey a variety of textures that inkjet matte paper and digital works cannot.

My main source of inspiration comes from media such as the television show “Gravity Falls” and an internet story collaboration, SCP-Foundation. I was inspired by both having the essence of “strange” and “weird” ideas being conveyed as both horrifying and wacky, helping me dive deeper into thinking and expressing PDD-NOS with the little knowledge I had on it at the time I learned I was diagnosed from my mother. The use of this media and the techniques I use to create my works of art are important because not only do they convey my personal understanding of how I view concepts of my PDD-NOS, but the process I work with is fast and efficient to convey my subject.
